TWEHA SyntheticPrimer
Special surface pre-treatment for synthetic supporting structures and polymer-based surfaces
TWEHA SyntheticPrimer is a specially developed surface pre-treatment for synthetic supporting structures and supporting surfaces with a synthetic or polymer-based finish, where direct adhesive bonding may be limited by a relatively low surface energy.
Many plastics and polymer-based surface finishes have surface characteristics that make reliable wetting and adhesion difficult. TWEHA SyntheticPrimer modifies the bonding surface and creates a smooth, consistent and stable interface onto which the TWEHA adhesive can be applied.
TWEHA SyntheticPrimer is particularly intended for supporting structures manufactured from synthetic materials or provided with a plastic-related surface. Certain powder coatings are also considered polymer-based surfaces from an adhesive-bonding perspective and may therefore require this type of pre-treatment. Due to the large variation in plastic and coating formulations, durable adhesion must always be verified by testing before use.
TWEHA SyntheticPrimer should be regarded as a surface pre-treatment rather than a conventional adhesion primer. Its purpose is to modify and homogenize the synthetic bonding surface so that a controlled interface for the TWEHA adhesive is created.
Before application, the surface must be dry, clean and free from dust, grease and other contamination. Thoroughly clean and degrease the bonding area with TWEHA Cleaner+ and allow the cleaner to evaporate completely.
Shake TWEHA SyntheticPrimer thoroughly before use and apply one thin, continuous layer using a suitable brush or fine-structure roller. Process only the quantity required and keep the container closed as much as possible during use.
Allow TWEHA SyntheticPrimer to dry completely. Bonding with the appropriate TWEHA adhesive can commence after a minimum of approximately 30 minutes, subject to the applicable environmental conditions and Instructions for Use.
Because plastics, composites and polymer coatings can differ significantly in chemical composition and surface energy, the use of TWEHA SyntheticPrimer does not in itself guarantee durable adhesion. The complete combination of supporting material, surface finish, SyntheticPrimer and TWEHA adhesive must always be assessed by means of an appropriate adhesion and durability test before application. TWEHA specifically requires testing for critical low-surface-energy and powder-coated surfaces.

Designed for performance and efficiency
Engineered for reliable bonding

TWEHA SyntheticPrimer is particularly suitable for:
TWEHA SyntheticPrimer is particularly suitable for synthetic supporting structures, polymer-based supporting profiles, and plastic or plastic-related bonding surfaces, including selected composite supporting materials with a synthetic bonding surface and selected powder-coated supporting structures. It is designed for low surface energy substrates where direct adhesive bonding is insufficient, and is used for the preparation of difficult synthetic surfaces before application of a TWEHA adhesive. Suitable for ventilated and rainscreen façade constructions with synthetic supporting components, it is the product of choice for professional façade applications where a controlled adhesive interface is required.
TWEHA SyntheticPrimer is intended for the supporting structure or bonding substrate. It is not intended as a general primer for the rear surface of façade panels and must therefore not be applied to the back of the cladding panel unless specifically tested and approved by TWEHA for that application.
A complete bonding system
All TWEHA products are part of the Tweha Bonding System. Always refer to the Technical Data Sheets and approved substrate lists for correct system application.
Technical questions

SyntheticPrimer is a surface treatment for selected low-surface-energy synthetic or coated materials where additional adhesion improvement is required.
No. Powder coatings vary greatly in composition and adhesion, so applying SyntheticPrimer alone does not constitute technical approval.
Not as a standard TWEHA solution. Where bonding to the aluminium flange is required, the powder coating must be completely removed unless the specific system has been tested and approved.
No. The surface must still be dry, clean and grease-free before SyntheticPrimer is applied.
Surface energy, coating chemistry and coating adhesion can differ significantly, so durable adhesion must be verified on the actual material.

More efficient, more economical
Compared to traditional mechanical fixation systems, TWEHA Bonding Systems can reduce installation costs by up to 40%.
Faster installation, fewer components, and no visible fixings result in both economic and aesthetic advantages.
