Eliminates the need for screws or rivets, allowing panels to maintain a clean and seamless architectural appearance.
TWEHA Blacken
Fast-drying black coating for aluminum façade profiles and bonded cladding systems
TWEHA Blacken is a specially developed black coating for aluminum supporting profiles used in ventilated and rainscreen façade constructions.
With open-jointed façade systems, the natural bright or shiny appearance of mill-finished aluminum profiles can remain visible between the cladding panels and interfere with the desired architectural appearance. Black anodized aluminum provides a solution but can add considerable cost. TWEHA Blacken offers a practical alternative by creating a uniform black surface on the visible parts of the aluminum supporting structure.
Unlike conventional decorative paint, TWEHA Blacken has been developed specifically for this application. The coating must not only adhere durably to aluminum but may also form part of the bonding surface onto which the TWEHA adhesive system is subsequently applied. This makes adhesion performance an essential characteristic of the product.
Before applying TWEHA Blacken, the aluminum must be dry, clean and free from dust and grease. The surface must first be properly cleaned and degreased using TWEHA Cleaner+.
TWEHA Blacken is applied to the visible area of the aluminum profile — normally over the width of the façade joint or wider where required. After application, allow the coating to dry for a minimum of 30 minutes. The TWEHA adhesive system can subsequently be applied partly or completely over the treated black surface.
Always refer to the applicable TWEHA Technical Data Sheet and Instructions for Use for the complete surface preparation and application procedure.

Designed for performance and efficiency
Engineered for reliable bonding

TWEHA Blacken is particularly suitable for:
TWEHA Blacken is particularly suitable for blackening mill-finished aluminum façade profiles, and for visually concealing aluminum supporting structures behind open façade joints or creating a uniform dark background between façade panels. It is designed for ventilated and rainscreen façade constructions, particularly on vertical aluminum supporting profiles, and can be applied in areas where TWEHA adhesive and/or TWEHA Tape is subsequently applied over the blackened surface. It offers a practical alternative for projects where black anodized aluminum is not required or economically desirable, and is suited to use in combination with TWEHA bonded façade systems as well as the renovation or modification of visible aluminum supporting structures.
A complete bonding system
All TWEHA products are part of the Tweha Bonding System. Always refer to the Technical Data Sheets and approved substrate lists for correct system application.

Blacken creates a black finish on visible aluminium substructure profiles behind open façade joints.
Untreated aluminium can remain clearly visible through open joints, while Blacken creates a uniform dark background.
The aluminium must be completely dry, clean and free from dust, oil and grease and should first be cleaned with Cleaner+.
Allow approximately 30 minutes at 20°C before applying TWEHA Tape or adhesive.
No. Blacken is a compatible black coating for aluminium substructures and should not be regarded as a conventional adhesion primer.

More efficient, more economical
Compared to traditional mechanical fixation systems, TWEHA Bonding Systems can reduce installation costs by up to 40%.
Faster installation, fewer components, and no visible fixings result in both economic and aesthetic advantages.
